Volunteering

Volunteers are an essential part of Occupational Therapy services which incorporate Equine Assisted Therapy and Hippotherapy.  Generous volunteers, directed by the Therapist,  make it possible to provide these therapy sessions!

Side-walkers and Headers

Administration

Side-walkers and Headers provide the safety necessary to any Equine Assisted Therapy or Hippotherapy session.

· Side-walkers walk alongside of the patient while he/she is astride the horse.  The role includes the responsibility of securing and removing the patient from the horse in the event of an emergency as well as directed interaction with the patient.

· Headers stand in front of the horse during prolonged halts creating a visual barrier and reminder to the horse to remain halted.  Headers are also frequently asked to retrieve toys (therapy tools) and play games with the patient.

Assistance in the areas of administration/organization is always appreciated!
